GCSE Results 2023

Salesian results double the national average

Students and their families at Salesian celebrated today following the publication of their GCSE and BTEC results.

Salesian students delivered an excellent set of results. 44% of all grades were 9-7 (A*/A) double that of the national average (22%) and 90% were 9-4 (A*-C) in comparison to the national figure of 67.3%. 88% of students passed English and Maths at grade 4 or above and 71% passed both at grade 5 or above.

The incredibly strong year of results included 34 students who carried away a clean sweep of 9-7 (A*-A) grades and Fiona Grant and Zyaire Lam who achieved straight 9 grades in each of their subjects.

Headteacher, Paul Gower said, “Given the challenges these young people have endured during their secondary education, we couldn’t be prouder of their achievements. They have displayed adaptability, resilience and commitment along the way to achieving these excellent outcomes. I would like to thank their parents and pay tribute to the peerless staff here, teachers and support staff who have continued to work tirelessly despite the challenges. The professionalism, innovation, commitment and passion they have demonstrated has been exceptional; we are blessed to have them.”

CEO of the Xavier Catholic Education Trust, Ani Magill said, “We are delighted to see our students being so deservedly rewarded for all their hard work. Staff and leaders at all three of our secondary schools have gone to extraordinary lengths to ensure that our young people have continued to benefit from the best education. We are incredibly grateful for the dedication of the staff as well as that of the wonderful families, who work so closely with us. Their combined efforts have ensured that our students are in the best possible position to go out into the world and achieve great things, not just for themselves but for the greater good which is a key aim of the education we provide in our Xavier schools.”

Salesian A’ Level and Vocational Results

Salesian Buck National Trend

Students and their families at Salesian were celebrating following the publication of this year’s A’ level and vocational results this week. Students were deservedly well rewarded with an excellent set of results continuing Salesian’s sustained track record of high achievement over many years.

Despite the return to 2019 thresholds and the national reports of tumbling grades Salesian delivered their best ever results, exceeding those of last year, with 42% of all grades at A* or A, 73% A*-B, 90% A*-C and a staggering 20% of students gaining straight A*/A grades.

The vast majority of the 186 students from the College at Salesian secured their first choice university place and 65% of applicants gained places at Russell Group universities including Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, Edinburgh and King’s.

Head of College, Lizzie Bolton said, “We are particularly proud of this group of young people given the challenges they have faced during recent years. They are a group of incredible young men and women who I am sure will use this success as a springboard for future achievement.”

Headteacher, Paul Gower said, “We are delighted for the students, their families and the staff at Salesian who have all worked so hard to achieve these great results. The unique commitments made by all members of the school community have, once again, led to great success and it has been a privilege to celebrate all that this week. The results this year continue the excellent track record of outcomes for students at Salesian College. I would like to congratulate all of our Year 13 students and wish them the very best in their future endeavours.”

Salesian is part of the Xavier Catholic Education Trust along with St. John the Baptist School in Woking, St. Peter’s in Guildford and twelve feeder primary schools. CEO, Ani Magill said, “We are delighted to see our students being so well-rewarded for all their hard work.
