Why study Computer Science? 

This course is ideal for those who have completed Key Stage 4 Computer Science and want to continue learning to a more advanced level. This would suit students who are good problem solvers and can think logically. Computational thinking is at the heart of this course. 

Course Content 

  • 01 Computing systems – externally marked question paper worth 40%  
  • 02 Algorithms and programming – externally marked question paper worth 40%  
  • 03 Programming project – internally assessed and externally moderated worth 20% 

Assessment 
This qualification is a mixture of internal assessment by centre assessors and quality assurance personnel and externally moderated work by OCR. There is also an externally assessed exam paper 

Careers in Computer Science 

Computer Science is offered by universities either as a standalone subject, or in combination with a wide range of subjects, such as Mathematics, Psychology, Business and Multimedia. 

Other students go on to do Computer Science related degrees and careers in growth areas such as Games development, Systems analysis, Network engineering, IT systems management and Database administration.
